AJI Virtual Panel: Threats to Science and the Future of Public Health (3/31/25)
On Monday, the Accountability Journalism Institute held a virtual panel discussion about the threats to science and the future of public health today. Participating were a number of members of the AJI board members and Scientific Advisory Board members, including Dr. Robert Morris, Dr. Peter Daszak, Dr. Elizabeth Jacobs, Dr. Jonathan Howard, Dr. David Gorski, Dr. Natalia Solenkova, Dr. Dan Wilson, Dr. Frank Han, and Wendy Orent. Also joining were Nick Tsergas of Canada HealthWatch and Derek Beres of the Conspirituality podcast and book.
The discussion was led by AJI board member Jahan Sharif with opening remarks from investigative journalist and co-founder Walker Bragman.
Participants weighed in on the implications of the Trump administration’s drastic cuts to vital public health agencies and reiterated the urgent need to address and combat misinformation in an information ecosystem dominated by social media and right-wing podcasters. To that end, they discussed ideas for moving forward, building audience engagement, and getting through to people with correct information.
