Corrections Policy
At the Accountability Journalism Institute, we are committed to accuracy, transparency, and accountability in all of our reporting. We recognize that mistakes can happen, and when they do, our goal is to correct errors promptly, clearly, and with integrity.
1. Commitment to Accuracy
We strive to ensure all information we publish is thoroughly fact-checked, well-sourced, and accurate at the time of publication. However, when we discover that we have published incorrect information, we will take swift action to address and correct it.
2. How We Handle Corrections
Minor Errors (spelling, grammar, clarity): These may be corrected without a formal correction notice if they do not materially affect the meaning or accuracy of the story.
Factual Errors: If an error involves incorrect facts—such as names, dates, locations, quotes, or statistics—we will update the article and include a correction notice at the bottom or top of the article indicating what was changed and why.
Significant Corrections or Retractions: If an error compromises the integrity or overall accuracy of the story, we may retract the piece entirely or issue a prominently placed correction or editor’s note.
3. Transparency
All corrections will include:
The date of the correction
A clear explanation of the error and the correction
An acknowledgment of responsibility, where appropriate
We do not "scrub" or silently alter articles in a way that might mislead readers about what was originally published.
4. Social Media and Syndication
If an error is shared on social media or through our newsletters or partner sites, we will make reasonable efforts to correct the mistake across those platforms as well.
5. Updates vs. Corrections
Sometimes stories evolve as new information becomes available. In such cases, we may update an article without issuing a correction. Updates will be clearly noted within the story with timestamps and contextual explanation.
If you believe we have made a mistake, please contact us at admin@optout.news.
We review all correction requests and, when appropriate, will issue a correction or clarification.
